OKAUKUEJO RESORT
Located in Etosha National Park 17km from the southern
entrance; it is the oldest establishment in Etosha. It currently
functions as the administrative hub of the Park and houses the Etosha
Ecological Institute from where all park research is monitored and
conducted.
It is famous for its flood-lit waterhole, where a wide diversity of
wildlife congregates and interacts. During the winter months the
spectacle starts at dawn, with animals coming in large numbers to quench
their thirst, with the activity continuing throughout the day and deep
into the night. In the early evenings, it is not uncommon to have black
rhinoceros, elephant and lion all drinking at the same time.

NAMUTONI RESORT
Evocative and steeped in history Namutoni is situated on the eastern
edge inside Etosha National Park. Inspiring images of Beau Geste and the
Foreign Legion, an old German Fort overlooking the King Nehale waterhole
takes centre stage.
The original fort was built out of wood before the turn of the 19th
century and is a prominent milestone in Namibia’s struggle for
independence. Burnt down in the aftermath of a battle between the Owambo
warriors and their German colonial overlords; it was subsequently
rebuilt in the form that one sees today.
One
of the highlights for visitors is the sunset view over Fischer’s pan
seen in the distance from the top of the watchtower. |
