Uis
Uis is located in the shadow of the Brandberg Mountain, Namibia's highest mountain at 2606 meters. The Brandberg is home to the world famous White Lady rock painting, said by some to be over 20,000 years old. The mountain is very popular for hikers doing 3 to 5 day hikes. The Brandberg Area is also popular for its unspoilt beauty, Desert Elephant, herds of Zebra and Springbok roaming free in the wild.
Uis being situated on the main road between the coast and the Damaraland interior eke's out an existence based almost entirely on this traffic passing through the area. There is a small supermarket, guesthouses, bakery and a petrol station, together with a few other small shops.
