African Reservations

Solitaire is a small settlement in the Khomas Region of central Namibia near the Namib-Naukluft National Park. It currently features the only gasoline station, post office, and the only general dealer between the dunes at Sossusvlei and the coast at Walvis Bay. There is also a gravel air strip occasionally frequented by tourism operators and self-flyers.

The Namib Desert – unique – with a variety of desert landscapes, gives Namibia its essential character. It’s the oldest living desert on earth, where flora and fauna are perfectly adapted to this harsh environment, and where some of the highest accessible dunes in the world can be found.
The Namib Naukluft Park is the largest Nature Reserve in Namibia and many private nature reserves are nestled at its borders to form a unity for wildlife and people alike.
