The Cape Town Foreshore constitutes roughly 145ha of land that was reclaimed from the sea in the 1930's to 1940's, which extended the city a further 2km into Table Bay - virtually doubling the size of the CBD in 7 years.
It extends from the Cape Town Railway Station (Adderley Street) to beyond the CTICC (Buitengracht Street), up until Strand Street ("Beach" Street). The land was developed using sand dredged from the sea-bottom during the construction of the Duncan Dock at the V&A Waterfront. The Foreshore is surrounded and made up by the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), various hotels, media houses as well as a number of major financial institutions.
