Desert Horse Campsite, located a few kilometres outside Aus, is an ideal location from which to explore Namibia's south-western corner. It is a perfect stop-over en-route to Lüderitz and the famous Kolmanskop ghost town or northwards to the magnificent Sossusvlei and the red dunes of the Namib Sand Sea.
Before descending to the Garub plains of the Namib where the wild horses roam free, you will find this beautiful camping spot, which is nestled against the Aus mountains. The campsites are only a 2 kilometre drive from the Desert Horse Inn.
The ten campsites, which can accommodate up to six guests, are shaded by giant camelthorn trees. Each site offers a braai area, table with benches, tap, and a shelter from the wind.
Shared ablution facilities at the campsite offer hot water showers and have flush toilets.
Important Note: There are no power-points at the campsites. If you need to charge your equipment, you can do so at the reception of the Desert Horse Inn.
Braai/barbecue packs are also available at the reception of Desert Horse Inn, or you can enjoy dinner at the Desert Horse Inn restaurant (only subject to availability; please enquire upon arrival). The swimming pool at Desert Horse Inn may be used by campers.
Various activities are offered at the Inn, including guided scenic sunset drives, and full or half-day desert tours. There are also several hiking trails that lead through the valley. Alternatively, you can make use of the mountain biking trails or drive to the Wild Horses viewpoint at Garub.
