The Katse Dam, a concrete arch dam on the Malibamat'so River in Lesotho, is one of Southern Africa's largest dams. The dam is part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, which will eventually include five large dams in remote rural areas.
The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) provides daily Katse dam wall tours, including an interesting tour of the interior of the dam wall (tours to be booked directly on arrival). This tour commences with a comprehensive briefing of the history of the Lesotho Highlands water project (LHWP), from conceptualization to construction, ending with a brief on the monitoring and control equipment that is housed within the dam wall.
