Mesosaurus Fossil Camp is situated 42 km north-east of Keetmanshoop. When looking out over the harsh landscape of our Mesosaurus Fossil Camp, it is hard to imagine oneself standing at the bottom of an ancient lake. True to Namibia, this is a place of contrasts and diversity, with earth's history written clearly in the beautiful rock formations.
This interesting and unique part of the beautiful country is situated in the south, 40 km from Keetmanshoop. The approxjmately 280 million year old Mesosaurus Fossil in Namibia, has so far only been discovered on this specific site. In addition the farm hosts its own unspoilt Quivertree and Dolorite “Park”.
Farm Spitzkoppe-Ost offers campsites and 4 chalets with En-suite bathrooms for those preferring a sense of comfort. A communal lapa offers a kitchen area with braai/barbecue facility for those wishing to self-cater.
The 1.5 hour fossil tour is personally guided by Giel or Hendrik Steenkamp who do not only show visitors examples of well-preserved Mesosaurus Fossils, but also provide them with interesting information. The Fossil Tour is always guided and not subject to the booking of accommodation.
Mesosaurus Campsite: The bush camp is 3 km into the farm, where you camp in a river bed between the quiver trees. The camping site offers shared ablution with 2 showers and 2 toilets.
