South Western Zambia

Zambia’s southernmost region is also its most popular, dominated by the mighty Zambezi River, which flows east from the town of Sesheke to Mozambique.

This south-western corner is represented by the Sioma Falls (also known as Ngonye Falls), Liuwa Plain National Park and the Sioma Ngwezi National Park.

Sioma Falls, with their horseshoe shape, are remarkable for the abundant water cascading over staggered 20 metre drops. Notably, the river flows beneath the rocks on both sides of the falls, providing a unique experience of standing atop and feeling the underground current.

Liuwa Plain National Park's pristine wilderness is a major draw for nature enthusiasts. Despite some driving needed for game sightings, the rewards of encountering wildebeest herds, wild dogs, and lions in their untouched natural habitat are worth it. Abundant birdlife and stunning summer storms against lush grasslands provide fantastic photo opportunities from November.

Sioma Ngwezi National Park, Zambia's third-largest, features Kalahari woodland and is home to a rich variety of wildlife. Among the park's inhabitants are elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, giraffes, various antelope species, as well as numerous bird species.
