Waterberg Biosphere Accommodation

North of Johannesburg and Pretoria, and blessed with magnificent mountain scenery, Limpopo Province now offers game viewing in a malaria-free region. Several generations ago, this area was home to a variety of wild animals, like giraffe, impala, bushbuck, lion, hyena, buffalo, elephant and many more. However, the requirements of man the farmer and hunter resulted in the depletion of this area in favour of cattle farms. Thankfully, the process has been reversed, and areas in the important Waterberg biosphere have been restocked with game.

The Waterberg Biosphere is a massif of approximately 15,000 square kilometers in north Limpopo Province, South Africa. Waterberg is the first region in the northern part of South Africa to be named as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The extensive rock formation was shaped by hundreds of millions of years of riverine erosion to yield diverse bluff and butte landform.

The Waterberg Mountains, are renowned for being the back-drop to some of South Africa’s most renowned game lodges. Ideally located 2 hours from Johannesburg and 90 minutes from Sun City.
