Mossel Bay Accommodation

Mossel Bay’s an important tourism and farming region of the Western Cape Province. Mossel Bay lies 400km east of Cape Town and 400 km west of Port Elizabeth, the largest city in the Eastern Cape Province. The older parts of the town occupy the north-facing side of the Cape St Blaize Peninsula, whilst the newer suburbs straddle the Peninsula and have spread eastwards along the sandy shore of the Bay.

The warm waters of the Indian Ocean to the south, and the protective barrier of the Outeniqua Mountains to the north, act together to create almost idyllic weather patterns that, combined with kilometer after kilometer of sandy beach, have given Mossel Bay the reputation for having the fairest weather in South Africa. The town is, therefore, indisputably one of South Africa’s favourite beach holiday destinations, not least because its weather is conducive to enjoying the beach throughout the year.

Tourism remains one of the most important drivers of Mossel Bay’s economy. The town’s economy relied heavily on farming, fishing and its commercial harbour until the 1969 discovery of natural offshore gas fields lead to the development of the gas-to-liquids refinery now known as PetroSA. Because of its solid growth rates, attractive property prices, low crime rate, first-world education and health care facilities, and its stable work force, Mossel Bay is now considered one of the best investment destinations in the Southern Cape region and, indeed, in the Western Cape Province.

The Oystercatcher Trail is a guided, luxury and fully catered slack packing trail where a hikers every comfort is looked after. This 4 day hike focuses on the habits and plight of the endangered African Black Oystercatcher and together with ecological encounters of marine species, wonderful beaches, dynamic dunes, rare plants and a wide variety of birds and mammals creates a truly eye-opening educational experience. This unique hiking trail is combined with accommodation at Sandpiper Cottages in Boggomsbaai.
